Refreshing Carbon’s image.

The first mock-up I did was a complete & utter failure. I didn’t know where I was going with it. By the end of the day, I decided to scrap it & modified the theme to a whole different sort – to gamify it a bit & I settled on that thought.

  • Client: Starbucks
  • Project Brief: Design a new website for Carbon – putting more emphasis on giving information about the company as a whole.
  • Materials: Pencil & paper, Adobe Photoshop
  • Font(s): Cantarell, Open Sans
  • Designed for: Carbon Digital, Inc.

The next day, I had my idea & was itching to start.
Upon discussing my proposition with my then-superior, Mr. Carl Laurino, he gave me the idea to also take inspiration from PS4’s interface. I took that into account & I continued my perusal of the instructions when I started on the website.

My main inspiration was, indeed, the Playstation. That said, I wanted the interface to not be static. As such, I added a wheel that subtly spins for all eternity. I incorporated the aspect of “game” in it & used the O from the Playstation as the main call-to-action button of the site. Jessica Limcangco, the head front-end developer, added a nice pulsing effect to add more emphasis to it!

The original title for this section was “Choose a Player,” but we had to edit it to the current one.
This section is divided into 2: the About & the Team. The interface for the team was (yes!) inspired from the Playstation 4 interface – a full-screen team horizontal parallax scroll selection with details at the bottom!

For the portfolio section, we had worked on several types of websites, mobiles apps, etc. over the years. I didn’t really get a set list of categories to append in the filters; I had to just add enough extra filters as an example as you see here. This section is quite simple: Photos & (excerpt) details are shown & when you hover on a particular project, a button shows up for you to view the project to its full extent. Clicking it will open a pop-up containing the full details.

Carbon offers several types of services – from web design to social media marketing to game development. Each of these services has a different set of steps involved for a project to push through.
In this section, I decided to make use of a simple accordion in which users can interact with by picking the type of service they want from CDI. Clicking the “Count Me In” button will direct the user to a contact page with the specific service he/she decided on.

The company has been actively providing clients with creative services for several years now & has had an array of clients from malls to beauty products to advertising agencies. This section shows all of the clients that Carbon has worked with over the course of its existence.

The last part is a simple map with contact info on how to reach the company. This was added since we’ve had several problems with couriers & people being lost since the relocation of the company to a new building.

Overall: This was one of the last projects I worked on in Carbon before I left the company & I’m glad I was able to leave a part of me with them before my departure. This was a challenge & I was frustrated at times, especially when I was running low on creative juices. Pulling through with a task & finishing it no matter what the odds are – that’s one of the important things I learned during my 4-years of stay in this wonderful company & I’m glad I was able to do just that with this site. ?
